on jobs and payroll tax: if your reporting ends at the "the rich create jobs" quote, you prove your reporting is worthless
seriously… if your two-sided, objective reporting is a leading dem saying “the rich aren’t paying their share” and a republican saying “rich people create jobs” and it ends there (like every single mainstream story today does), you are proving how unnecessary your style of journalism is to real people. you only show how vital it is to your sources, so they can get their talking points out.
the wealth disparity is well illustrated. what isn’t well illustrated is how rich people create jobs. so if you quote a source saying that old chestnut, you had better have the graphics department on standby or have some research (not from cato, heritage, or another paid up think tank) that shows how rich people are employing other people in productive ways.
it isn’t just about jobs, it is about putting people to work on solving problems that need to be solved. it is about spending our money wisely, investing in our future. and what is in question, after all the flat-out financial robbery in the past three decades, is whether or not the private sector is a safe investment for a better future for all.
